7. Pollution
Pollution is a worldwide problem; A problem that we humans created and are constantly making it worse year after year even as the impacts glare at us. Electricity generation is the top contributor of carbon dioxide emissions in the world. Combustion of fossil fuels is the main source of power generation that has been adopted and practiced by major industrialized countries. Burning of fossil fuels releases the previously trapped carbon stored within the earth’s surface and disturbs the balance of the atmospheric constituents. Coal alone produces twice its weight in carbon emissions. For a ton of coal burnt, about 2.5 tons of carbon dioxide is released. The sudden injection of carbon dioxide into the environment has led to rapid increase in temperatures and has affected the polar ice caps. Our gadgets run on electricity and the better the performance, the more the energy consumption. How are gadgets harmful here? Go figure!
