9. Turkmenistan
People will only get tourist visa by signing up for a tour guide who needs to be paid in advance. Visitors are prone to getting overcharged by locals. Great desert views abound, chief among them being the “Darvaza gas crater” a hellish hole in the middle of the desert that has been spewing a unextinguishable fire for the past 40 years. Tourists need to be careful of border skirmishes between Turkmen soldiers and those of neighboring Uzbekistan.
