Considered the cradle of Western civilizations, it’s been the home to great thinkers like Socrates, Aristotle and Plato and not to speak of Alexander the Great. Being an ancient culture, Greece has a host of cultural and architectural sites to offer for tourists. The Acropolis, Athens, is a symbol of Western civilization and cosists of three magnificent temples in the heart of the capital, best known and most distinctive of them being the Parthenon. For travellers wanting to enjoy the sand and sun, the island of Mykonos is the perfect destination. The Meteora Monasteries situated on steep rocky outcrops in the Thessaly region is another fascinating draw for tourists with many many more places to visit. No wonder this ancient cradle of civiliztion drew 26 million visitors in 2017, 5 million more than 2014.
