14. Niki Karimi
This classic Iranian-born beauty burst into the limelight in 1990 in the role of a young bride in Behrooz Afkhami’s hit film The Bride. She took to direction later on when she wrote and directed the documentary To Have or Not to Have (2001) for which she won an award in Iran’s Rain film festival. She won acclaim in recent roles in movies like Death of Fish and Wednesday May 9 (2015). The versatile 47-year old Teheran-born also spent her early years doing translating work like Marlon Brando’s biography “Songs My Mother Taught Me” from English to Persian over and above doing the same for two books by Hanif Kureishi, the Pakistani-English writer.
