2. Lima Syndrome
A case where the abductor starts experiencing a sense of sympathy for the hostage is known as the Lima Syndrome. The condition got its name from the kidnapping involving the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in Peru. Here the captor feels a sense of compassion towards the plight of their hostages. A feeling of empathy is observed wherein the abductors have taken steps in the interest of their hostages, so much so that the release of the hostages has also been practiced.
