Caffeine: Coffee, energy drinks, teas and chocolate are the kind of drinks that have caffeine that has the ability to excite the nervous system and heighten qualities like alertness for considerable periods of time. The Canadian Mental Health Association in one of its reports cautions people with anxiety attacks to avoid caffeine. Shortness of breath and a racing heart are common symptoms of a panic attack. Caffeine can also bring about stuff like irregular heartbeats, nervousness, headaches and jitters. The National Institute of Mental Health, Bethseda, Maryland recommends people who are high-strung and anxious to stay away from caffeine as high doses of the same could prove to be dangerous.
