2. Alcohol: is common among many of those coping to deal with anxiety and stress. Being a depressant of sorts, many are led to believe that alcohol has a sedative quality about it and helps them unwind. The National Center for Biotechnology, Information, Bethseda, explains that resorting to alcohol to quell anxiety could simply backfire. Rather anxiety could just exacerbate with prolonged and increased use of alcohol, they say.
The Anxiety and Depression Association of America states that as many 15 million US adults which constitutes a good seven per cent of the entire population have some form of anxiety attack at any point of time. It also goes on to say that one-fifth of the people found to be having anxiety disorders use alcohol. Hence, for anyone suffering from social anxiety, it’s in their best interests to be avoiding alcohol or consuming it in moderate doses.
