Scientists at the Bayerisches Geoinstitut in Germany are trying to simulate conditions in Earth’s lower mantle more than 1800 miles below the surface. As the rocks were drawn down into the mantle, high pressures force the carbon dioxide to leave the rocks. Researchers now have developed a method to create diamonds from the CO2 and peanut butter.
